Removal of the RQF
and the Introduction of the Australasian Law Teachers Association
Journal
The
Executive of ALTA is pleased to announce its plans to create the
Journal of the Australasian Law Teachers' Association (JALTA) as
an electronic, double blind peer reviewed journal. The inaugural
issue of this journal is planned to be launched in time to receive
submissions from the 2008 ALTA conference.
JALTA
will represent an important initiative which will support the
research endeavours of its members. The Executive believes that the
refereed journal will also respond to the RQF in a more effective
manner than refereed conference proceedings and will increase the
prestige for ALTA as a professional association. The journal will
also appropriately reflect the maturity and development of ALTA as
an organisation which now represents well over 1,000 members.
JALTA is not designed to supplant, but rather complement, existing
publications that are produced by ALTA, including the Legal
Education Review (LER).
While the objectives of the LER are to “encourage and disseminate
research into legal education and to stimulate discussion debate and
experimentation on topics related to legal education”, JALTA will be
targeted at receiving submissions from particular discipline areas
and interest groups within ALTA. For example, someone who prepares
a paper for the Revenue Law Group would be able to submit it to
JALTA as a technical paper, leaving LER to continue publishing
articles as they pertain to legal education.
In this way, LER and JALTA can happily co-exist and provide a
broader avenue for members to publish their work in refereed
journals.
We look forward to launching the inaugural issue of JALTA following
the 2008 conference.
