The University of the
South Pacific
School of Law
Port Vila,
Vanuatu
1 – 4 July 2001
The members of this year's organising committee are very pleased to
have the opportunity to invite you to the Law School of the
University of the South Pacific, on Emalus Campus, in Port Vila,
Vanuatu, to attend the 56th Australasian Law Teacher's Association
Conference.
As one of the younger Law Schools affiliated to the
Association, and as one uniquely placed both geographically and
jurisdictionally, we have chosen a theme which we hope will reflect
current challenges and inspire future changes: Tradition and
Innovation in the Law: Old Paths, New Directions.
The theme lends itself to many interpretations and
this open-endedness is deliberate. We hope it will attract a wide
range of speakers and interest groups. The conference itself will
break with tradition by not having quite so many plenary speakers
and will have a panel session on the final day. This will allow more
time for interest groups, discussion and the chance to renew
acquaintance with the many colleagues that the conference brings
together.
We hope that you will use the opportunity of the
conference to bring your families with you to enjoy the hospitality
of Vanuatu, and that you will find time during your stay here to see
something of the island and experience a different lifestyle.
We look forward to welcoming you to Emalus Campus.
